My new friend Kristopher Dukes is a fashion journalist with a little SHAZAM! I love her site (http://kristopherdukes.com).I felt it would make me a journalist to feature her (yes HER) on my blog, so here it goes. She has been recognized in many publications such as WWD, Yahoo News, Fashion Wire Daily, and INKED. Therefore, read this interview!
JJ: Well first and foremost, I love your blog! It is really interesting how it provides women with alternative designer "look-alikes" sometimes without the HUGE price, but they are still very chic!
JJ: How did you get involved in fashion?
KD: I've been freelancing as a writer since I was 15, and when I was 17 I
got my first paid writing gigs as a music journalist. That lasted all
about five minutes - I started writing about fashion when I realized I
was more interested in style and the fashion industry's unapologetic
commercialism than bands spewing their press releases at me in
Hollywood diners.
JJ: Haha
JJ: Do u feel online publications are taken seriously?
KD: In general, they're still not taken as seriously as the print media. I
still love glossies, but I think they're dinosaurs. From what I can
tell, the Internet is to printing what printing was to handwriting on
scrolls.
JJ: As a fashion journalist what do you recommend to other fellow bloggers?
KD: To read my blog. Haha! (kristopherdukes.com)
JJ: Who is your favorite designer and why?
KD: I love Balenciaga - almost everything they make looks like smart sex.
(Versus Prada that just looks smart, and Gucci that just looks like
sex.)
JJ: Your loves seems to be accessories. How do you explain this?
KD: Accessories are a cheap, easy way to update a wardrobe. Invest in one
amazing little gold dress that flatters you and is very well made, shop
cheap trendy trinkets to keep the dress fresh.
JJ:From past to present, what is your dream outfit?
KD:Ooh la love... A bikini made of chinchilla. Haha! Seriously, a dream
item would be a 1920's Chanel frock. One of my favorite things in my
closet is a real deal flapper cocktail dress, it's all iridescent navy
beads on navy chiffon.
JJ: Do you feel fashion is pretentious?
KD: Anything can put on pretenses. Have you seen my dot-com?
JJ: If you met Anna Wintour what would you tell her?
KD: Ooh la love, I would try to French her. I love her. She is genius.
She looks amazing. Most women "let themselves go" - professionally and
physically - at "her age," blah blah. She is a perfectly groomed
poodle with a pit bull's brain.
JJ: Well thanks for the interview! By the way is that fox your wearing on your site a Dior piece? It is so taboo! Haha
KD: Thank you for interviewing me! And the little mink hanging on my
shoulder was bought at some New York City flea market. It's one of my
favorite pets.
